CD Training and/or Accreditation with SKPA

Photographers have asked about training with Special Kids Photography of America outside of the traditional workshop. We have resisted this because we wanted to meet everyone in person, due to the fact that working with children is involved. However, recent developments in technology have made it possible to provide a safety net through the Internet. We require a full working website and recommendation by another photographer who also has a website.

To encourage participation in attendance at regional workshops, the price of the CD workshop will be slightly higher ($299 for the entire package instead of $249). The slightly increased fee, however, will most assuredly be less than travel expenses for an out-of-the-area workshop.

Here are the necessary steps for SKPA accreditation through the CD program:

  1. Order the SKPA Accreditation CD Workshop package from the SKPA payment page for $299. Includes

    • Photographing Children with Special Needs. Book by Amherst Media.

    • Accreditation Study Guide. Book and studio reference by SKPA

    • Testing process

    • Photo review process

  2. Study the material in the books and CD.

  3. Take the test when ready.

  4. Prior to submission of packet for accreditation, the candidate must have an active website showing own work.

  5. Submit 3 referral letters from satisfied clients.

  6. Submit photographs of 4 different special children (age 18 and under) to be pre-screened and critiqued.

  7. Approved pre-screened images may be attached to the submission form to be reviewed by 4 qualified judges.

  8. If images are "borderline," judges will go to body of work shown on the candidate's website

  9. Candidate must be referred by another photographer who also has a professional website

  10. Upon acceptance, candidate will receive certificate and SKPA logo for use on web and/or in marketing materials
