I have been doing a lot of thinking lately on what a great need there is for more photographers to really learn how to capture these special kids on film, and how these families deserve great photos, not the "cookie cutter" pictures they have been getting. A client recently told me how much she appreciated me and the work I do. She said that one day her little girls will be gone and she will have awesome pictures to look at. I don't think a lot of photographers really get the gist of a special needs family and their situation.

Two-hour Introductory Workshop

This fast-paced training provides the attendee with a complete awareness of expectations and quick overview of needs in photographing children with special needs. A continual presentation of slides depicting various childhood disabilities gives visual support to dialogue. The Special Kids Photography Study Guide may be purchased in advance of the course to enhance your enrichment skills for the course. Photographing Children with Special Needs is also available at a discount. Check our events page for current trainings.

Day-Long Accreditation Clinic

The day-long accreditation clinic is packed full of information about photographing children with special needs. Everything from Attitudes (photographer) to Zany (child) behaviors are discussed. Points between A and Z are studio preparation, lighting, seating, eye contact, attention getters, sign language and most importantly, effective communication with parent and child. The Accreditation Clinic Study Guide is an integral part of the course and is available to on-line from our website. Order the study guide or beautifully illustrated Photographing Children with Special Needs ahead of time to study in order to receive the most benefit from accreditation training and ensure a higher score on the accreditation test. However, you may order the guide for study ahead of time in order to give you a tripod-leg up in preparation of the clinic. Check our events page for current trainings.

The Complete Accreditation Process

Want information on the accreditation process? It's fairly simple. However, in order to become fully accredited, your photographic examples must be accepted by the review committee. Although our standards vary from PPA certification of photographs (because of special circumstances with special children) we require professional attention be provided to lighting, composition, background and other traditional photographic techniques. For instance, if you are photographing an event, pay special attention to the arrangement of your subject to eliminate background clutter, light flares, deep shadows from sun, etc.
